The presistent fly and.... some sore uncles... LOL
posted on Friday, February 27, 2009

2 days ago, as I was taking the MRT to City Hall, there was a ang moh guy who stood in front of me with his back facing me. I couldn't help but notice a fly that has rested on his right shoulder, but I didn't think much of it as I thought the fly will naturally fly away once he makes a big or sudden movement. But it was quite the opposite of what I thought. The guy happened to alight at City Hall with me, and as he walked really quickly ahead of me, I saw that the fly was still on his shoulder even as he climbs up the escalator. And so I took the City Link and was headed to Suntec, and as I was approaching the end of the City Link, I saw that same guy walking towards me. I guess he was trying to find his way around and probably walked past where he would like to stop, but as he walked past me on my right, I saw that the fly was still there! It was really quite funny to me how this fly is so persistent on sticking to him, it's almost as if the fly was hitching a free ride to its destination =X haha and linking to this...

Yesterday, I went to Kallang Leisure Park with a friend, and since there was an arcade, I decided to go in for a game of Street Fighter 4. I did not think much of it as I went in and I just played against whoever that was playing since there was only 1 machine. Little did I expect that after losing my first game, I managed 52 consecutive wins on my second game(the midium kick was slightly spoilt, it doesnt come out when I press it some times). It was my personal record for arcade game wins LOL! =D
The previous highest record I got was 53 wins for Guilty Gear XX at bugis but I took turns with 2 of my shifus who taught me how to play that game. This one, was all by myself. At about 40wins my friend was going on about how I look really tried and can't take it anymore and by the 53rd game, I was totally drained and lost the game to one of the uncles(well I really couldn't think anymore). It was a pity cause I only managed to take a picture at 40 wins and didn't have a chance to take it at 52, but I managed to leave my name Cal on the machine at the 1st place for wins(at least something I guess =X).

What was really interesting was that the group of uncles(how I know their uncles? they were talking really loud behind me about what time they need to pick up their kids from "lesson") that played against me were really sore. They were purposely commenting loudly on how I will lose to their pro friend if he was around, and they went to the extent that at 1 point of time they told me to "wait" because their "pro" friend want to challenge me and he is "coming down now". Well I just smiled and said "sure". But he was nothing close to what I thought (I thought he really is a pro from their conversation). I managed to win their "expert" friend for 6 games in a row, and after that, he stood up really furious and shouted really loud, "challenge him to 100 games la, bet $50 bucks or $100 bucks 1 game also nevermind". LOL here is the list of my thoughts/reaction upon hearing this statement:
1. I looked at my close to 50 win (at that point in time) and thought to myself, "I feel like just turning around now and ask that loudmouth to pay me $5000 first and don't talk so much"
2. Then I thought to myself again, "Well I seriously don't mind a job like that, maybe this is my answered prayer from God" (well of course I ain't serious, just making fun of my current distress)
3. With that kind of behaviour from uncles around me and these thoughts, I almost burst out laughing.... thankfully I didn't...
Anyways they became really irritating (well to me they were) after that. They surrounded the machine, began commenting really loudly about the game and on top of that, started to tell their friend really loudly, "nono wait for him to do this, he is just aiming for that, wait for this, faster kick him now". I was like gosh, those were the things people do in their teenage years never would I expect to see uncles acting out like that after losing a game hahaha. Talk about PERSISTENT FLIES =x hahahahaha

Oh for the record, I am not pro or really good with this game, the main reason I managed so many wins was because it's just the same few uncles whom I just happen to be able to win(with some ease =X) who had too much money to spend and decided to donate to the arcade. If there were anyone who could play averagely well, I would have lost easily =X

For Discussion Purpose
posted on Monday, February 23, 2009

Hey all, just thought of throwing up some things for discussion so, if you would, you can post your comments/thoughts on the tagboard =D Not really up for correct "correct" answers but more of what people think and understand of these words.

Point 1 - Is there a difference between these words:
1. Knowledge vs Wisdom
2. Grace vs Mercy
If there is a difference, perhaps you can state what each word means and what is their difference/s in meaning/usage/application of these words.

Alright, I actually had another point but I thought I'd leave part 2 for later or else the tags will be super long =D... Yup yup once again I want to emphasize that this is purely for discussion sake, so DO REPLY and tag me to tell me what you think, thanks! =D

Testimony
posted on Monday, February 16, 2009

Well, with all that not-so-nice posts I have made thus far, I have decided to write a decent post to give glory back to God for what He has done for me recently. And well, perhaps more often in the future as well =D
About slightly more than a month back, my school informed us that they will be organizing an overseas trip where we will be conducting seminars and workshops, and this trip will help me clock a big chunk of secondary practicum hours that I will need to complete as part of my degree program. And well, as much as I would like to go, I was already facing some serious financial difficulties where even my school fees was already a big problem. Despite so, I committed my intentions in prayer to God. One Saturday during life group, the Bible study leader asked for prayer request at the end of the session and I shared my desire and difficulties regarding this trip with them(I haven't done so for ages, not sure what prompted me to) and then we prayed for each others' needs together.
That night after dinner with the group members, as I was taking a bus home, I received an sms when I'm like 3/4s into the journey that someone(I won't name the people in this testimony write-up to prevent any possible exploitations in the future) is willing to pay for my airfare to Philippines. I was really happy beyond words, but that's not it. The next day, Sunday, I received a phone call, and that person(a different person), handed me a $150 for the trip too! Of course, a 5day 4night trip will also cost more than $150, but as I reflected on this incident, I'm really amazed at how quickly God answered my prayers. Prayer really moves mountains, a prayer that has been said, and answered within the span of hours (In between the time of Bible study to even before I reached home) is truly an amazing occurence to me and I can't thank God enough for His goodness to me. And of course, I believe that He will provide for the rest for this trip.
As mentioned earlier, since the beginning of the year, I have been having problems with my monthly instalments of my school fees and every month is really a test of faith to me. It has undoubtly made me weary, and constant family issues through this whole period of time greatly increased my burden. Many times, I was rendered hopeless with the amount of issues (there are people who can attest to this) and was on the verge on giving up on everything. Despite so, God used this incident to bring me to a new level of faith in Him. He reminded me to trust in His promise of providence for me and His capability to carry me through all my circumstances no matter how hopeless things might seem.
And through this incident, I know(and am reminded) that my God is more than able to exceedingly and abundantly provide for my needs and carry me through all these troubles and that I will be able to come out of these, a stronger and more resilient person in Christ. All glory to my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ =D

Weirdo guy and lil bengs...
posted on Monday, February 9, 2009

I was waiting for bus to go home one night when a double decker bus came. It was pretty late at night and I just happened to look up and I saw a guy sitting really comfortably at the last seat. Just when I was about to look away he suddenly smiled at me and made the "twist" sign, in that moment I thought he was doing it to someone else then when I looked, there wasn't anyone else thats looking at him lol....

Today, I saw 4 ah bengs as I went to the toilet of a shopping mall. They seemed pretty young luh, perhaps 14 or 15 years old.... mouth full of vulgarities, broken english + chinese combination made them sound really noobish... well then again.. they probably think their the coolest things on earth. Oh wells... after I was done I went outside the toilet to wait for my friend and just nice the lil bengs came out of the toilet to wait for 1 of their friends as well. It was then a bunch of maids from the maid agency in the shopping mall came to the toilet as well to fill water (or so it seems to me) and the little bengs walked up close to them and kept shouting, "Ice-cream ice-cream, who want ice-cream..." (for the benefits of the innocent friends that I have who don't understand this =D ice-cream in this case means something else and not literally ice-cream), then another bunch of maids came and they did the same thing.... I was kinda irritated and disgusted because they were picking on the poor maids, then again, who else can they pick on....

Following that, they waited for the lift which was right next to the toilet (well I was still waiting for my friend then...), and when the lift came, there was a aunty inside. The loudest of them all walked towards her and gave her that very act beng face, she was totally unimpressed and just walked by those monkeys. And guess what, the loud mouth turned his head and FACING THE BACK of the aunty he said, "diao simi diao" then he turned back to his friends, tried to look cool and his friends looked totally in awe of his little "brave act"... I almost burst out laughing in their faces man seriously... not only did they bully maids and not only did they try to pick a fight with an aunty, they tried picking a fight with the BACK OF THE AUNTY.. hahaha it was seriously hilarious... I mean.. how low can they stoop? hahahaha

A bunch of stuffs
posted on Saturday, February 7, 2009

Here is a bunch of stuff that I can remember from the past few days, I just had lecture from 10am-5+pm today and went church after that so really have no energy to narrate/spice up the stories to make it really interesting... but I didn't want to forget about them either... so I'm gona keep each one short.. =X

1. Is it the school I go or is it that school canteen is getting seriously expensive nowadays? I ordered rice, a piece of chicken, a hashbrown a fraction of dao gua and the school canteen charges $3 for that. Its more expensive then the coffeeshop downstairs my place!

2. I played street fighter 4 against a bunch of guys at kallang leisure park. They were winning another group of people initially then when I challenged that guy, he was busy whining to his friend about how my character is a cheat and that he deals tons of dmg, he kept going on and on until one of his friend said, "huh? isn't the character you used earlier also cheat? he also deal crazy dmg" that finally shut him up. Oh wells, amazing how whiny guys get, I totally dislike such people, bleh.... anyways he lost to me 3 times and he chose to stand behind and watch me with his friends after that... (well not like I'm a pro or something.... I just happen to win..)

3. Well I saw a friend with her boyfriend on the train at purple line the other day but she didn't acknowledge me. And we happened to alight at the same stop at douby gaut and since I was headed to the bus stop outside I just exited from the purple line exit and I saw my friend headed towards the red line. Thinking that they were changing trains to go orchard, that didn't really catch my attention. It was when I was waiting for my bus at the bus stop that I saw my friend, and her boyfriend, crossing the road and walked towards plaza singapura. It was really funny because they took a huge detour to go to plaza singapura. I do sincerely believe that it was an honest mistake they made in walking and not that they do not know =X...

4. While waiting for my bus transfer to head home today I saw a guy walking towards me from far in a pretty gangster fashion, as he came closer I saw an insect that seemed like a baby cockroach or a breed of beetle that is uncommon (well I'm not very sure) stucked on his shirt. Well I didn't warn him of course... but I kept watching him instead... then in a short distance ahead he suddenly realised the bug and started to jump around like crazy and his friend just stood there and kept asking "shen me shi shen me shi (what happened what happened)".. it was quite a funny sight.... ah beng vs cockroach? or bug... bug wins!! haha

5. I was taking bus home last night and at Tanjong Katong the bus driver horned a taxi that suddenly stopped in front of a traffic light even though it was green. Then to my surprise, a middle aged man, short and stout pointed his middle finger at the bus-driver. He then followed on and "slapped" his hands to do the "F U" sign (its the old school handsign if you don't know ask someone who knows LOL) the bus driver wanted to drive off initially but then he stopped and looked at that guy, seemingly deciding if he should get down and confront him or call the police. But the man outside carried his actions further, started to shout vulgarities even though no one could hear him. It was quite a funny sight, come to think of it... he must feel really "good" or "cool" doing that in front of so many passengers with the bus-driver not retaliating in any way. But to me, an audience in the bus, it was like watching a vulguar monkey perform his signs in a mime.... it looked really funny and I couldn't help but laugh in the bus....

6. While taking bus to church, the bus was filled to the max and I was stucked in front. A few stops after I boarded, a lady squeezed herself up on the bus. She then spoke with the bus-driver and told him that because there is a concert today so, the bus is so crowded. Then she went on and told the bus driver, "oh you know, you should suggest to SBS and tell them to increase frequency on concert days la..." the bus driver was dumbfounded and he just nodded, everyone standing nearby was starting to get amused.... she carried on complaining about SBS then she added, "oh you should at least ask them to send a double decker on concert days" then the bus driver told her how certain places has height limitations... then she kept going on and on until all people standing around started giving "looks" to each other as though telling each other how amusing this aunty is.... haha

alrightys... thats all!!! I hope i remembered everything well.... and I hope you guys will not find it a waste of your time reading all my posts!! =D have a blessed night all...

Couple of interesting incidents
posted on Wednesday, February 4, 2009

Hey all, sorry I haven't been posting much.... I've been either feeling not too well or being busy with stuff so I got kinda lazy =X anyways just the other day I went for the movie Inkheart with my friend at Lido. It was one of the very few times that I actually watched a movie there and so, I was quite "sua gu" there. And so... I went to like cinema 2(I think =X) well... the only cinema that is upstairs(this, I'm sure of). After sitting down for a bit, I realised that there was a huge pillar beside our seats and about 2/3 of the bottom part of the pillar was gone, only 1/3 of the pillar was left hanging downwards from the ceiling. I brought it to my friend's attention and we started discussing if it was made this way on purpose or was it something that happened to it. We didn't get very deep into discussion when the movie "started" (the company trailer, sound system trailer etc.) and we stopped our discussion. A couple of minutes later, a group of very young ang moh girls came into the cinema (it was very clear from where I was seated at) and one of them gasped and exclaimed, "*gasps* oh my god, theres a half broken pillar right there"... well being really nice Singaporeans the people in the cinema started "shhhh-ing" as though they all needed to go pee and some people started giggling... Well we found it quite amusing so we laughed a little as well =X

Today's bus ride was quite an experience as well. I was taking the bus home and as usual I chose the seat that is near the front, facing forward, which is right in front of the 3 seater facing sideways in the bus as this is one of the few seats that actually give me enough leg space. Since it was going to be a really long ride I decided to take the chance to study a little on my school work so I took out my textbook and began reading. It was about 1/4 of my journey when a lady boarded the bus and sat at the extreme left(right in front of my face) of the 3 seater.

Immediately I could smell a "scent" from her, it isn't smelly but it does smell like some medicated oil or some aroma therapy oil. At first I was alright with the smell, but as the journey went on and with the very pathetic air-con that the bus-driver gave us, it was getting stuffy and I started feeling sick of the smell. It was so bad that I lost my appetite totally even though I was famished at that point of time.

I didn't want to make things awkward so I started to pretend that my running nose was giving me problems and covered my nose with my hand and breathing through it but my attempt failed (yeah I admit my acting sucks), the aunty soon realised that I was disturbed by a smell. She began looking around herself for possible causes and when she failed she looked at people around me as well. I felt really bad and so I took off my hand and tried to breathe normally but at this point of time, the smell made me feel even worse. It was to the extent that I wanted to get off the bus if she didn't soon enough.

I began to cover half my face with my jacket and breathing through it, by this time, no one else was around and it became apparent to her. She kept turning and glaring at me uneasily then looked around herself for "causes", and I just pretended to be watching the TV (though I really wish I could just tell her that she is the cause and that she need not look around =X) After a few rounds of glaring and looking around, the aunty seemingly believed that I was totally unaffected by her and she did something which almost made me burst out laughing.

She suddenly tilted her head sideways and started to bend lower and lower as though she was pretending to fall asleep. And as I peeked on, I saw her smelling herself around the armpit area and finally she even stuck her nose "into" her armpit and I could see her breathing in and out real hard tryin to smell herself!!! =X As sick as I was at that time, I really can't stop but grin to myself whenever she didn't notice. The sight was so funny, but of course I still felt really sick of that smell and thankfully, soon after smelling her own armpit, she got off the bus. Phew, I never appreciated fresh air so much in my life so far, it never felt better....
